Gary Goldenberg Biography
Gary Goldenberg is a freelance writer and photographer based in Westchester County, N.Y., with more than a quarter-century of experience writing about science and medicine for lay and professional audiences. After earning a baccalaureate in biology and a master’s in science communication, he joined the public relations staff of the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. He launched his freelance career in 1984, specializing in writing for academic medical centers and teaching hospitals, including Mount Sinai Medical Center; Columbia University’s College of Physicians & Surgeons, School of Public Health, and School of Nursing; NYU Langone Medical Center; NewYork Presbyterian Hospital; Albert Einstein College of Medicine; and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. A multi-skilled writer, he has expertise in writing in a variety of formats, including magazine articles, press releases, Web sites, speeches, annual reports, and fundraising materials. He has also written for an array of national magazines (American Health, Health, Mademoiselle), Web sites, and professional medical and nursing publications. In addition, he is the author of Nurses of a Different Stripe: A History of the Columbia University School of Nursing, as well as several book chapters. His work has been honored by the Association of American Medical Colleges, the International Association of Businesses Communicators, the League of American Communication Professionals,and Sigma Theta Tau International (the Honor Society of Nursing).
